Online European Roulette Explained

Out of all roulette variants, European Roulette is the favorite and most frequently played one. It is the top game in Europe, as opposed to the USA. The key reason why European Roulette is so popular is its house edge. Namely, it amounts to only 2.63%, which is twice as low compared to that of American Roulette that amounts to 5.26%. This means that the game has an immensely high RTP, which increases the players’ chances of winning

The European Roulette wheel possesses 37 divisions. Numbers ranging from 1 to 36 colored in red and black are alternately ordered on the wheel. 0 is the only figure colored in green. Unlike the American variant, European Roulette has a single zero only. Even though it may be difficult to grasp the number pattern at first glance, the figures are not distributed without an order.

European Roulette Rules

The main goal of the game is to predict on which number or color the ball will eventually land. To do so, all participants place their bets on a specific number, color or preferred combination. Afterward, the wheel is spun in one direction while the ball goes in the opposite. The moment the ball lands on a particular socket, the winners receive their payouts. As any variant of Roulette is a mere game of luck, there are not many concrete strategies that will help players predict the winning numbers.

The basic difference between European Roulette online and at a land-based casino is in the number of players and staff. Namely, online Roulette is played via the game simulator and it takes only one player and no staff. Land-based Roulette, on the other hand, is played at the traditional table occupied by eight players at most and four staff members.

Bets and Odds

The betting layout seen on the typical roulette table consists of two parts referring to the bets players can make. Namely, players may wager on single numbers or make group wagers. In the European version of Roulette, participants can exploit two primary types of wagers — inside and outside. The former are placed on individual, adjoining or small groups of figures. The latter include greater groups of them. Different bets provide different chances to win, along with various payouts.

European Roulette bets go as follows:

  • Straight-Up Bet — implying placing bets on an individual number ranging from 1 to 36;
  • Split Bet — featuring two adjoining numbers and the bet placed between them;
  • Street Bet — including three consecutive numbers and the bet placed at the end of the sequence;
  • Corner Bet — featuring a bunch of four figures and the bet put on the corner where they meet;
  • Line Bet — including either six figures or two lines of three figures. The bet is placed where the lines end, on the very boundary between them;
  • Column Bet — including the complete column. The bet is placed on the “2-1” spot.
  • Dozen Bet — featuring a bunch of 12 figures and the bet placed either on the “1st 12,” “2nd 12,” or “3rd 12” spot.
  • Bet on Color — including betting on either all red or all black numbers. The bet is placed either on the red or the black spot on the table.
  • Bet on Odd/Even — including all odd or all even figures. The bet is placed on the ’’Odd” spot (representing odd numbers) or the “Even” spot (representing even numbers);
  • Bet on Low/High — featuring betting on all small figures (bets are placed on the “Low” spot) and big ones (bets are placed on the “High” spot).

If a player wagers an outside bet (Low/High, Even/Odd, Red/Black), but the ball hits zero, they may use the “en prison” rule. It allows the player to obtain the half of their bet, otherwise, the total amount will be locked. If that bet wins the following spin, the player can reclaim it but with no earnings.
